"I became a Fund Administrator for Sprinkler Fitters Local 281 in January of 2007. As a new Administrator I learned early on, the value of membership in the Midwest Employee Benefit Fund Coalition (MEBFC). I have had the opportunity to associate with Administrators with a wide array of talent and experience. I don’t think I could have sustained any success without the ability to seek the council, advice and camaraderie that the MEBFC offers.

Furthermore, prior to any Coalition vendor endorsement, the MEBFC implements a screening process. This process can eliminate the time-consuming process of a vendor request for proposal by an individual Fund.  Of course, being able to participate in vendor discounts that are negotiated by the MEBFC is an important aspect in membership. With the number of insured lives that the Coalition represents, this fact is a formidable persuader to vendors seeking Labor’s Health and Welfare business.

Keeping informed has a cost; the seminars we must attend for continuing education are very expensive. Coalition membership has true value - vendor discounts, streamlined RFP process, plus the opportunity to consult with peers and develop networks right in your own back yard. By uniting our Funds within the MEBFC, we stand stronger together to face the challenges that alone would seem insurmountable. I highly recommend this membership."

"The MEBFC was already in place as a service provider when I accepted my Fund Administrator position.  My initial concern was whether I would have any responsibilities beyond attending meetings and listening to my fellow Administrators.  I felt the Coalition was a valuable organization for our smaller Fund with their data resources and cost-saving access to items such as RFP’s.  Their influence and knowledge in the healthcare field was designed to provide insight into concerns facing other Funds.  It was a means for Administrators to share any precautionary advice based on issues they were seeing in their covered population; and to update and protect other Funds and participants from experiencing similar situations.  New information would be beneficial to both my duties as an Administrator and to my Trustees in their duty of controlling costs for a smaller Welfare Fund.

I was advised to participate in a MEBFC Committee which helped the Coalition Board maintain information and updates in many areas of Welfare services.  Since my Fund was going through an RFP process and I noticed a Provider binder on the desk with a familiar Service Provider name, I selected the Provider Relations Committee.  This first selection would give me additional training in my job as an Administrator. That simple step opened the door to becoming the Fund Administrator I am today.  The growing group of fellow Administrators and the staff of the MEBFC were there to answer questions, survey other Fund Administrators and assist me with the knowledge necessary to keep our Fund running in the most efficient manner possible.

Soon I accepted Officer positions for the MEBFC and maintained a new relationship of concerns and duties.  Being a MEBFC member Fund has proven to be a wise and cost saving benefit for my Welfare Fund.  Any Fund wanting to expand benefit knowledge and seek cost control options should consider what the MEBFC can do for their Welfare population."
